empreintes DIGITALes is releasing a new DVD-Audio in “Surround 5.1” during the ICMC 2009! Inspired by Louis Hamelin’s novel La rage, this work by Pierre Alexandre Tremblay performed by Stefan Schneider was finalist at the 34th Concours international de musique électroacoustique et d’art sonore de Bourges (France, 2007), and the concert Alter ego (in which La rage was the main work featured) was awarded the 2005-06 Prix Opus for Best Concert — Musique actuelle, electroacoustics.

And the Winners of the Destellos Competition Are…

The Foundation Destellos have announced the results of the second edition of their international competition of electroacoustic composition: Diana Simpson has received the first prize for her work Papyrus, and the Motus Prize has been awarded to Tormenta de campos fértiles by Fernando Iazzetta. Pete Stollery’s work Still Voices has had an honorary mention in the competition. The members of the jury 2009 were: Cort Lippe, Robin Minard, Jonty Harrison, Wilfried Jenztsch and Daniel Teruggi. The members of the Motus jury were Vincent Laubeuf, Guillaume Contré, and Todor Todoroff.

empreintes DIGITALes won’t be turning 20 before January 2010. This won’t stop us in starting to celebrate right now with our 100th disc! The trans_canada festival at the ZKM in 2005 was centered around 8 new works by as many Canadian composers: Nicolas Bernier, Darren Copeland, Francis Dhomont, Louis Dufort, Gilles Gobeil, Robert Normandeau, Barry Truax, and Hildegard Westerkamp. The trans_canada DVD-Audio finally brings these works together in 24-bit high definition sound in both stereo and Surround 5.1.

Yves Daoust Awarded the Prix Serge-Garant 2009

The Foundation Émile-Nelligan has awarded the Prix Serge-Garant 2009, for the entire work of a composer, to Yves Daoust during a ceremony on December 2, 2009 at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montréal. For tyhe event, musicians Brigitte Poulin and David Cronkite performed Impromptu for piano, synthesizer / sampler, and tape. Founded in 1991 this triennial award has been given to Denys Bouliane, Michel Gonneville, Gilles Tremblay, Bruce Mather, François Morel, and John Rea.

No Type’s disc Les arbres by Nicolas Bernier was awarded the Prix Opus “Album of the year — actuelle and electroacoustic musics” at the 13th Gala Opus on January 31, 2010 in Montréal. Also of interest: Chorals ornés for organ and tape by Yves Daoust — and performed by Régis Rousseau — was awarded the Prix Opus “Premiere of the year.”

The empreintes DIGITALes label is again invited to participate in the Qwartz Electronic Music Awards events. The 6th edition will take place on April 2 - 3, 2010 at Palais Brongniart (Bourse subway station) in Paris (France). Come and visit us starting at 2 pm at Stand #36! Admission to the Market is free. Jean-François Denis and Christian Zanési will be part of a round table discussion on Pierre Schaeffer’s heritage on April 2; the next day at 6 pm Mathew Adkins will spatialize his Symbiont on the acousmonium.
