Lars Hollmer
A founding member of the cult group Samla Mammas Manna, Lars Hollmer has helped reinvent scandinavian folk music in the ‘70s. Completely over the top, SMM were combining traditional melodicism and wild creativity. The group was part of the Rock in Opposition (RIO) movement, together with similarly daring european bands like Henry Cow and Etron Fou Leloublan. RIO provided the blueprint for the kind of artist-run networks that have been supporting creative music ever since. With the Samlas, the Accordion Tribe or on his own, Hollmer has traveled the world with his timeless melodies full of naive beauty and dancing lyricism. Lars Hollmer utterly defies classification, although comparisons have been made to the likes of Astor Piazzolla, Nino Rota, Robert Wyatt, Brian Eno, and the Penguin Cafe Orchestra.Hollmer has been performing and recording music for over 35 years in Europe, Japan, and Québec, and has received universal acclaim for his singular music.
