Yegl is a lost file, a diabolical virtual element that, through the quirks of computing, escapes our control. The little devil reappears capriciously with its codes and peculiarities. In such a back-and-forth of sonorous raillery evolves everyday life, filled with echoes and sensations. In our indoor living spaces, we listen with resignation to our routine tools (printer, keyboards, cell phones, vacuum cleaners…). In the outdoor environment, we suffer the tools of others (hammers, beeps and all kinds of other signals).
[English translation: François Couture, iii-19]
Yegl was realized in 2006-07 at EMS (Stockholm, Sweden) and at the composer’s studio in Mar del Plata (Argentina), and premiered on September 5, 2007, as part of Internationale Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2007 at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). It was commissioned by Stichting Ton Bruynèl (following the awarding of the Ton Bruynèl Award in 2005).
