The piece was made for an event produced by Geiger, a Swedish new music organization based in my hometown of Göteborg (Sweden). I wanted to make a “noisy” piece since Geiger somehow tends to prefer noise music for their events.
Raw was made from one sound source only which is the most uncontrollable software synth I have ever encountered: Skrewell, a part of Native Instruments collection. I decided to use its “raw” output, not trying to perfect the sound in any way, not adding any processing nor effects.
Raw finally came out as a kind of composed improvisation where I combined prerecorded material with live performance. Of course it was a complete failure taken as a noise piece. I guess I reached my limits as a musical chameleon in this case, but I am still quite happy with the final outcome — created in less than a week.
Raw was realized in 2012 at the composer’s studio and premiered on April 13, 2012 during the GEIGER-festival #2 in Gothenburg (Sweden). The piece was commissioned by Geiger.
