Review

Mark Vail, Keyboard, August 1, 1997

If ever there was an audio equivalent of a horror movie, this one’s it. Cacophonous crashes, jungle noises, water dripping in a cave, slamming boobym traps, tolling-for-thee bells, screaming machines, chattering air hammers, and René Lussier’s shrieking electric guitar: Gobeil pieces together these frightening sonic events, with occasional female narration in French, into a series of climaxes that may leave you hiding under the bed. It’s very highbrow, but much more spirited and listenable than typical academic electroacoustic stuff.
