Normandeau [(Lieux inouïs)] deftly translates the listener seamlessly from one tableau to another; a children’s playground in an echo chamber morphs into what could be the sounds accompanying a ‘close encounter of the third kind’ into then a call-and-answer of clanging pipes near and far. With headphones, these 1985-1989 recordings become a hermetically sealed world bizarre and unique, begging exploration and return visits. (Normandeau: 4/5)
