Gilles Gobeil is part of the rich, academic electroacoustic scene centered on the Université de Montréal. While much of the music from that fertile world is cerebral and engaging, Gobeil breaks ranks and offers sounds that are harsh and nightmarish. Three of the four works here are eerie creations based on Gobeil’s readings of Proust, HG Wells and Jules Verne. The fourth, Derrière la porte la plus éloignée… is a malevolent vision of Venice.
