You know Nicolas Bernier for his cooperation with Montréal guitarist Simon Trottier (12rec.042). At, Nicolas promotes friendly artists and his own solo works, like Milliseconde topographie or his ongoing project with dancer and composer Jacques Poulin-Denis. These days, ekumen publishes the second CD of the duet, entitled Sur fond blanc.

This is what you can read about the album at

Sur fond blanc explores the themes of interior space, emptiness and absence. The album recreates white page where everything can happen, a neutral canvas made of electronic textures and field recordings where impressions, memories, and fragments of life appear.”

What sounds abstract and academic is in fact a wonderful patchwork of cinematic field recordings, fragementary vocals and textural drone patterns. The arrangements are fresh and aerial, and although an influences from Tim Hecker is apparant, Bernier and Poulin-Denis succeed in finding their own language between experimental electronic music, acousmatica and performance art.
