Digital Desiderio

There are processors we can attach to our stereos to achieve the effect of hearing a symphony as we would in a large concert hall, so why shouldn’t we hear and play classical music complete with all the other sonic distractions of everyday life? So reasons Québécois electroacoustic composer Yves Daoust, who plays the traditional western suite form anything but straight here. There’s traffic, radio reports, a sonorous Italian announcer reading about toccatas, brushing of teeth, Castor Et Pollux digitally filleted by sampler, even the composer himself being interviewed! Daoust invests his compositions with skill, humour and a keen understanding of the classical form, offering us a new way of hearing the past.
