2003 was a spectacular summer, and the beaches were overcrowded. Children splash around in the water, shrieking in an attempt to gain the attention of their parents, who are lying lazily in the sun. “Bürgerablage” is the name of a popular beach on the river Havel in Spandau, a district of Berlin.
