The source sounds for Tantana (Turkish: “fanfare,” “pomp,” “rampage,” “ado”) were recorded while rehearsing for a concert in Freiburg (Germany) during the Euro 2008 football tournament. On this particular evening, Türkiye had beaten Croatia in the quarter finals, and the numerous Türkiye supporters in the city took to their cars to create their own improvised, mobile celebratory fanfares.

Tantana was realized in 2011 in the Electroacoustic Music Studios of Bangor University (Wales, UK). The piece was commissioned by Firstsite and Colchester New Music to celebrate Firstsite’s new building in Colchester (England, UK) and first performed there several times a day from December 15 and 31, 2011.
