Overture was commissioned by the Skinnskatteberg Electronic Music Festival (Sweden) which in 1995 had Mexican music as its focus. In composing a concert opener suitable to the ocassion, I thought this piece should be made of somehow easily recognisable Swedish and Mexican sound elements.
