Review

Before hearing this disc, I had heard of the name Headphone Science before. It was mentioned to me several times on discussion forums and mailinglists, and I had seen it before on the No Type Website. For some reason though, I had not heard any of his music before. Of this fact I am not proud. Truth be said, I’m a bit ashamed. Cause this is the music I love! The chilled idm-ish type of music. Lots of details, lots of laidback rhythms, and beautiful melodies. Unfortunately, this disc is not a full album. With its nearly 40 minutes of playing time spread out over 6 tracks, it’s a damn good EP though.

From the laidback melodies of its title track We Remain Faded to the cut up rap of Games I just can’t find anything that I don’t like. Of course, this is not the perfect music. There is no such thing. Music wouldn’t be fun anymore if there was something perfect. But this comes near that. This is one of these albums that I just can’t ignore, can’t shake off. It happened to me before, for instance with Boards of Canada and their In a Beautiful Place Out In The Country. Some things just linger.

My favorite track though is To Dine in Distance. Guitar, horns, starting laidback, with nice downtempo laidback rhythms kicking a bit later. Beautiful vocal samples used as well. It just gets to me the most. Beautiful.

All in all a great disc that I think more people should get. If you like hiphop-influenced laidback idm-ish stuff, this is definately a disc to get!
