The entire catalog (today with 15 releases) of Oral, the Montréal label of “experimental non-lyrical electronic music,” is now available via electrocd.com.

After a noticed participation on the compilation Miniatures concrètes and two autoproduced albums on her small label Nota Bene, Natasha Barrett presents her first CD on the empreintes DIGITALes label, the rich and scintillating Isostasie. A student of Jonty Harrison and Denis Smalley, strongly inspired by the many faces of the Norwegian environment, this brilliant composer offers in Isostasie wonderful acousmatic paintings. We can hear on this recording, amongst others, two of her prized compositions: Industrial Revelations was awarded First Prize at Musica Nova (1998), and The Utility of Space was awarded a First Prize at the 28th Bourges International Electroacoustic Music and Sonic Art Competition (2001).

Rhizomes is belgian composer Stephan Dunkelman’s first CD. His acousmatic compositions, inspired by his multiple contacts with artists from different domains (choregraphers, visual artists, fashion stylists), takes the listener in a journey to abstract and moving planes, where “the spirit of the dance and the need for silence” complete each other to produce rich and engaging aural soundscapes “so that, between Heaven and Earth, listening is vertical.”

Arturo Parra is a Colombian composer and guitar player living in Québec for the past ten years. With his new release Parr(A)cousmatique, we are treated with a splendid bouquet of works for guitar and tape. Five acousmatic works, five passionate meetings with the acoustic guitar, played without acessories or special preparation. With musical propositions from Bejarano, Dhomont, Gobeil, Normandeau and Roy, Parra builds organic sonic weddings far away from the usual clichés of contemporary guitar.

Small Québec City label, Déluge is the second half of the “Alterflow” collective. Newly released on the Métamkine label, Le luxe de la réflexion! by French composer Laurent Grappe is an electroacoustic fresco centered on arabic dialects. Reflexions about distance and intimity are fueled by thoughts around identity and language, heritage and rupture. Initially conceived for tape and voice, Le luxe de la réflexion! is presented here in an acousmatic version.
