Perhaps my favorite singer / songwriter, the Cuban Pablo Milanes, inspired this work. It was composed for a Festival of Electro-Acoustic Music in Varadero, Cuba organized by Juan Blanco. It uses a ten bar phrase from one of Milanes’ most beautiful songs. The “commandante” refers to Che Guevara.
