The Musica Nova 2012 International Electroacoustic Music Competition (Prague, Czech Republic) announced its first prizes: Toys by Orestis Karamanlis and Music for a Maverick by Roderik de Man. Mentions were given to Machin de machine by Francis Dhomont, La part des anges by Robert Normandeau, Irama by Felipe Otondo, Fantasy by Yu-Chung Tseng, and behind the light by Hans Tutschku.

The first prize of the 7th acousmatic composition competition Métamorphoses 2012 was awarded to Manuella Blackburn for her work Switched on. The Public Prize went to Orestis Karamanlis for his work Toys.

Founded in 2006 by the ZKM’s Institute for Music and Acoustics (Karlsruhe, Germany) and the SWR’s Experimentalstudio (Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany), the Giga-Hertz-Award celebrates the career of a composer and four production prizes are given to composers for projects to be realized at the ZKM or the Experimentalstudio. The grand prize was attributed to Gottfried Michael Koenig while the four production prizes were awarded to Dániel Péter Biró, José Miguel Fernandez, Orestis Karamanlis, and Robert Normandeau (for his work Jeu de langues).
