Topographies features five electroacoustic works composed between 2004 and 2012. Bédard’s style is compact, noisy, with a predilection for sharp contrasts — for that, he reminds me of his elder Gilles Gobeil. The works reference literature (Zinoviev), rock music (Rush), heritage buildings (the prison of Québec), but these diverse sources are brought back to a rather homogenous style — to the point where I have trouble distinguishing between pieces on first listen.
