Many events will take place to celebrate the 80th anniversary of composer Francis Dhomont. In addtion to the cover article by Rosemary Mountain in the Computer Music Journal 30:3 (From Wire to Computer: Francis Dhomont at 80); Dhomont will also be the focus of the new Francis Dhomont book published by the Ina-GRM.

Four concerts will mark this special birthday. The first two will have the premire of Premières traces du Choucas, a work co-commissionned by Musiques & Recherches (Belgium) and Réseaux (Québec): on October 21 during L’Espace du son, the international acousmatic music festival produced by Musiques & Recherches in Brussels (Belgium); and on November 2 — Dhomont’s birthday — during the concert Ombre et lumière during Akousma (3) concert series presented by Réseaux in Montréal (Québec). Lastly, on November 11, two concerts will be produced by Ina-GRM at Maison de Radio France in Paris (France) with the premire of À propos de K.

The 2nd edition of the Konnexions festival will be held on September 29 and 30, 2006 at Cri du Port hall and Parvis des Arts Festival in Marseille (France). Amongst the works presented… La roue ferris by Bernard Parmegiani, L’argent… toujours l’argent! by Marc Tremblay, Studio de nuit by Francis Dhomont, Appel d’air by Michel Redolfi, as well as improvised performances by Zbigniew Karkowski and Catherine Jauniaux.

Les Escales improbables de Montréal will be held at the King Edward Pier in the Old Port of Montréal on September 2 and 3, 2006. Many activities will be held, such as “musical siestas,” interactive performances, and concerts with guest artists Christian Calon, Philippe Le Goff, Geneviève Letarte, and Michel A Smith, amongst several others.

Arturo Parra will present his latest compositions for guitar and vocal expressions in the concert Sentiers de la lune et de la nuit on September 2, 2006 at Salle Alec et Gérard Pelletier in Sutton (Québec).

The first edition of Audio abstractions (Aa) will take place on August 20, 2006 at La Chambre blanche (Québec City) with i8u, Érick d’Orion, and Gal.

Composers François Bayle and Morton Subotnick will take part in the 12th Música Viva Festival on September 23 to October 27, 2006 in Lisbon (Portugal). On September 28, Bayle will present a concert for loudspeaker orchestra and video, featuring some of his pieces which were awarded prizes at various Música Viva Electroacoustic Music Competitions: Arc, métaphore / lignes et points [II.6], and La forme de l’esprit est un papillon. Bayle will also give a composition master class and a lecture, L’invention du son.
