A free interpretation of a gnostic text from the 2nd century entitled Anthem of the Pearl, La perle et l’oubli (“Pearl and Lapse of Memory”) is a work by Gilles Gobeil for ondes Martenot and tape which will be presented by Vancouver New Music Society on September 14, 2002. Premiered in Köln (Germany) at a concert produced by the WDR3 at the Stadtgarten on January 7, 2002, the piece features the ondist Suzanne Binet-Audet.

Jean-François Denis was guest at Radio-Canada’s Chaîne culturelle radio programme “Nicholson” on December 9, 2001 to talk about the evolution of empreintes DIGITALes since its first release in 1990 and electroacoustic creation in general. This radio programme has been selected for rebroadcast on August 18, 2002 at 8 pm (EDT; UTC -4). The works on the programme are: Forêt profonde (3 excerpts) by Francis Dhomont, Derrière la porte la plus éloignée… by Gilles Gobeil, Éclipse by Ned Bouhalassa, Cut 1, 2, 3 Progress by Åke Parmerud, Mass by Richard Karpen, Oaristys by Jacques Tremblay, Inside Out by Randall Smith, the mixed version of Impromptu by Yves Daoust (with Jacques Drouin and Lorraine Vaillancourt), and Péroraison by Yves Beaupré.

Several new electrocd.com releases ranked well on Vancouver’s CJSF experimental charts for the May 21 to June 17, 2002 period. The No Type double CD compilation, The Freest of Radicals, ranked 4th. Chemin de fer, the new CD by sound artist Magali Babin, placed 8th. A new work by Francis Dhomont, his homage to musique concrète titled Cycle du son, is 12th. Gilles Gobeil’s first CD and John Young’s new work placed respectively in 27th and 32nd positions.

The music of Natasha Barrett will resonnate at the ISCM World Music Days in Hong Kong on October 19, 2002.

Robert Normandeau has completed a new work commissioned by Réseaux, Chorus, to be première at the event Rien à voir (12) in September 2002 in Montréal.

Denis Smalley will be premiering Ringing Down the Sun, a new 6-channel piece commissioned by DIEM (Danish Institute of Electroacoustic Music), in Århus on June 13, 2002.
