Les compositeurs Andrew Lewis, Felipe Pérez Santiago, Michael Mathews et Francisco Colasanto avec la bassoniste Wendy Holdaway et les membres de l’ensemble Dark in the Song animerons la première Encuentro Internacional de Instrumentistas y Compositores du 7 au 9 mai 2012 au Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras à Morelia (Mexique). Cette première rencontre est dédiée au basson et les nouvelles technologies.

Des œuvres acousmatiques de Andrew Lewis (dont une création), Adrian Moore et David Berezan (dont deux premières britanniques) et des pièces mixtes de Hans Tutschku et Chikashi Miyama, parmi plusieurs autres, seront présentées lors du MANTIS Festival Fall 2011 qui aura lieu du 28 au 30 octobre 2011 au Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall de la University of Manchester (Royaume-Uni).

La pianiste Xenia Pestova donnera un concert d’œuvres composées pour elle le 29 septembre 2011 au Powis Hall, Bangor (Pays de Galles, Royaume-Uni). Au progamme: Schattenklavier pour piano et traitement de Andrew Lewis, la première britannique de On the Impossibility of Reflection pour piano et traitement de Scott Wilson et, en création, X pour piano et bande de John Young. En complément de programme, des pièces de Messiaen, Mompou et Ravel.

Bangor New Music festival, held under the auspices of the university’s School of Music, celebrated its 10th anniversary with its most ambitious programme to date, and no concert signalled the event’s energy and range better than the one given by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and featuring three firsts.

The school boasts three notable composers – Pwyll ap Siôn, Andrew Lewis and Guto Puw – and works by them made up the challenging first half.

Ap Siôn’s Gwales, dating from 1995, pays homage to the late William Mathias, under whose aegis music flourished at Bangor. Building on fragments quoted from Mozart’s Requiem, the work depicts a journey towards the mythical island of Gwales.

In the first of the new pieces, Andrew Lewis also took us on a journey, this time in and out of consciousness. Number Nine Dream explored the first movement of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony through the hazy veil of the contemporary electroacoustic sound-world, making for an absorbing aural experience.

Hologram, by Guto Puw, BBCNOW’s resident composer, exists emphatically in the present, with his ascetic approach to structure balanced by a sensuous engagement with sound. It was delivered with startling clarity by the conductor Grant Llewellyn.

Wales is the spiritual home of the composer Adrian Williams, and the contemplative, questioning vein that its landscape has permitted him to articulate was reflected in his Cello Concerto, premiered here by Raphael Wallfisch. The concerto seeks to reconcile in its single long span an introverted, blues-inflected expressiveness with a freer, unselfconsciously flowing idiom. It was indicative of Williams’s instinctive ability to communicate directly that this was so warmly received by the audience.

Le Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre (BEAST) présentera une série de 5 concerts sous le thème Travels in Time and Space du 29 au 31 mai 2009 au CBSO Centre à Birmingham (Angleterre, Royaume-Uni). Le 30 mai Andrew Lewis donnera un concert solo et présentera ses pièces Danses acousmatiques, Benllech Shells (disponibles sur Miroirs obscurs) et Ascent. Un autre concert le même soir présentera Phantom Power de Jonty Harrison et Zwei Räume de Hans Tutschku.

La pièce Benllech Shells de Andrew Lewis, qui se retrouve sur le disque Miroirs obscurs, sera présentée lors de l’événement Sonic Spatial Perspectives à Leeds (Angleterre, Royaume-Uni) le 6 février 2009. Le discours d’ouverture sera prononcé par Jonty Harrison.
