The work Fields of Darkness and Light for violin and processing by Adrian Moore was awarded the First prize (mixed music category) at the Musica Nova 2010 International Electroacoustic Music Competition (Prague, Czech Republic). The work will be heard at the competition’s concert on December 8, 2010 at Divadlo Inspirace in Prague.

Founded in 2006 by the ZKM’s Institute for Music and Acoustics (Karlsruhe, Germany) and the SWR’s Experimentalstudio (Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany), the Giga-Hertz-Award celebrates the career of a composer and four production prizes are given to composers for projects to be realized at the ZKM or the Experimentalstudio. The grand prize was attributed to Gottfried Michael Koenig while the four production prizes were awarded to Dániel Péter Biró, José Miguel Fernandez, Orestis Karamanlis, and Robert Normandeau (for his work Jeu de langues).

Dominique Bassal’s Ubiquité and Francis Dhomont’s Études pour Kafka are both nominated for the Opus Prize in the category “Disc of the Year — Musique actuelle, Electroacoustics.” The 14th Opus Prize Gala will take place on January 30, 2011 at Salle Claude-Champagne, Université de Montréal.

The first prize of the 6th acousmatic composition competition Métamorphoses 2010 was awarded to Graeme Truslove for his work Portals. The Public Prize went to Erik Nyström for his work Elemental Chemistry. The first prize of the spatialisation competition Espace du son 2010 was awarded ex-aequo to Julien Guillamat, and Sebastian Peter and the second prize went to Sam Salem.

Martin Bédard has received an Award of Distinction for his piece Champs de fouilles (Excavations) at the Prix Ars Electronica 2010 in the Digital Musics & Sound Art category.

The winning works of the 11th Música Viva Electroacoustic Composition Competition are Auto Harp by Enda Bates, Urban Adagio by Georges Forget, and Public Bodies by Sam Salem. Mentions were awarded to A glass is not a glass by Adam Basanta, El sonido eléctrico cotidiano, inmerso en el ambiente mismo by la sala by concierto by Federico Barabino, and Elemental Chemistry by Erik Nyström.
