The new record label &records, managed by Fabrizio Gilardino and Michel F Côté, announces two music events to be held in Montréal. Firstly, on February 10, 2005 at Casa del Popolo, a concert will feature musics by the Bernard Falaise and Martin Tétreault duo, followed by the band Bob (Éric Bernier, Michel F Côté, Guy Trifiro and their special guest Tétreault). Secondly, on February 23, 2005 at the O Patro Vys concert space, the band Foodsoon (Bernard Falaise, Alexander MacSween et Fabrizio Gilardino) will share the stage with Bob, again joined by Tétreault. The night will also feature videos by David Clérmont-Béïque and Frédéric St-Hilaire (Cinetik).

The 2005 San Francisco Tape Music Festival held in January 2005 presents three days of concert including “The State of the Art: A Diverse Sampling of New and Classic Audio Art” with, amongst others, … et ainsi de suite… by Jonty Harrison.

Mois Multi, a festival of technological art, presents Soft Avatar, a concert of performances made with four original digital instruments created by the audio art collective Avatar, on February 12, 2005 at the Multi hall of Québec City’s Méduse complex. Jocelyn Robert, Louis Ouellet, Mériol Lehmann and Éric Morin will make a demonstration of “Map-O-Mix.” Philippe Pasquier will use the “MachinesMOTOR” in an multi-channel audiovideo context. Jocelyn Robert will perform with the “MRNJR” (a double Macchina Ricordi) and Georges Azzaria performance will feature the “DÉCHIQUETEUSErecoleuse” (CUTTERpaster). Finally, Christian Calon will present four compositions, each of them executed with one of the four software.

Soundings… finishes its 2004-05 season with another 4 concerts of international Sonic Art held at Reid Concert Hall (Edinburgh). On February 5, 2005 a concert by Adrian Moore will feature his recent work, Power Tools, as well as works by Christian Zanési and Beatriz Ferreyra. The following day, the concert “Sonic Environments” will present works based on real and imaginary soundscapes, featuring composers Pete Stollery, Paulina Sundin, and Natasha Barrett.

Francis Dhomont, nominee for “Premiere of the Year” at the Conseil québécois de la musique’s Opus Prizes, will begin in February 2005 a series of activities in Germany and in the United Kingdom. Firstly, he will attend a composition residency and will premiere his latest work, Brief an den Vater, commissioned by the ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie) in Karlsruhe (Germany) for the “trans_canada” event. Secondly, following an invitation from Sheffield University (UK), Dhomont will present his work Cycle of Sound and give a conference at Bath Spa University College. Lastly, the Cycle of Sound will also be featured at the Sound Junction III event, held February 26, 2005.

The ZKM — Institut für Musik und Akustik in Karlsruhe (Germany) presented the “trans_canada: Tendenzen in Akusmatik und Soundscapes / Trends in Acousmatics and Soundscapes” event on February 10 — 13, 2005. Four days of concerts and discussions organized by Sabine Breitsameter and Ludger Brümmer with 9 ZKM commissions and world premières by Canadian composers Francis Dhomont, Darren Copeland, Nicolas Bernier, Hildegard Westerkamp, Barry Truax, Louis Dufort, Robert Normandeau, and Gilles Gobeil along with conferences by Jean-François Denis, Christoph von Blumröder (Köln), Rudolf Frisius (Karlsruhe), and Daniel Teruggi (Paris).
