New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) presents a series of concerts and in situ installations at Toronto’s Center Island (ON) from July 24 to September 4, 2005. On August 5, 2005, a portrait concert of composer Yves Daoust will be presented at St Andrew-by-the-Lake Church. The featured works, Petite musique sentimentale, L’Extase, Mi bémol, Water Music, and Bruits, will be spatialized by the composer. On August 6, 2005, Daoust will take part in a second concert with Adagio (Jennifer Waring, flute); works Frances White (Parmela Attariwala, viola), Damián Keller, and Charlie Fox along with premieres by “emerging composers” David Ogborn, Lewis Kaye, Parmela Attariwala, and Rose Bolton are also on the programme. On these same days, in situ sound performances by Steve Heimbecker and Neil Cadger will take place prior to the concert.

The Pantasmagoria festival held in Buffalo (USA) will feature a evening of Canadian music for flute, played by Derek Charke, on July 13, 2005. Amongst the presented works, the concert will feature La Chasse caribous (2003, for flute, speakers and tape) by Michelle Boudreau, Toneland Security (2005, for bass flute) by Paul Steenhuisen and Steam (2001, for alto flute and tape) by Barry Truax.

Sol y sombra… L’espace des spectres, a composition by Francis Dhomont and Arturo Parra, was selected for the next edition of the ICMC (International Computer Music Conference), to be held in Barcelona (Spain) from September 5 to 9, 2005. The European premiere of the work will take place at the Auditori on September 8, 2005. Works by Daniel Teruggi, Ludger Brümmer, Beatriz Ferreyra, David Berezan, Jean-Claude Risset, Elsa Justel and Paulina Sundin were also selected.

Élektrophonie presents the 2005 Nuit bleue from July 8 to 10, 2005 at Arc et Senans’ Saline Royale (France). Nuit bleue 2005 is the 4th edition of this festival dedicated to new electroacoustic and electronic music, and is presented in coproduction with the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) and Musiques & Recherches (Belgium). Every acousmatic composition will be spatialized on acousmonium by Sébastien Chatron, Jonty Harrison, Isabel Pires and Annette Vande Gorne. The night will feature compositions by Pete Stollery, Adrian Moore, Denis Smalley, Stephan Dunkelman, Ingrid Drese, Robert Normandeau, Francis Dhomont, Patrick Ascione, Andrew Lewis, Trevor Wishart, Annette Vande Gorne, Elizabeth Anderson, Theodore Lotis, Roger Cochini, Bernard Fort, Jonty Harrison, John Young, David Berezan et Beatriz Ferreyra, amongst others. The concert will then be repeated integrally in Birmingham (UK) on July 16, 2005.

Francis Dhomont will present a two hours concert featuring, amongst other works, his complete Cycle de l’errance in Köln (Germany) on July 1, 2005. The composer will also take part in a round table on abstraction and figuration in his music. Dhomont will also take part in Élektrophonie’s Nuit bleue 2005 at Arc et Senans (France) on July 9, 2005.

Composers Christian Bouchard and Michel Gonneville are collaborating on a multidisciplinary work with Albertan visual artists Derek Besant and Alexandra Haeseker. The work will be revealed at the Fondation Derouin’s international Symposium, to be held in Val-David (Québec) from July 16 to September 5, 2005.
