I put together a collection of texts related to the epicurean concepts set in poetry by Lucretius in De rerum natura. I did this as an attempt to trace back the origins of the concept of “element.” So, what you will find here is the nature of things presented as an insomniac mix of parallel quotes: from the birth of physics (Michel Serres) to Foucault’s pendulum (Umberto Eco), and number and time (Marie-Louise von Franz), all seasoned with tango, to find the logic of the element (Francis Wolff).

Elsa Justel [English translation: François Couture, iii-19]

L was realized in 2003 in the studios of La Muse en circuit (Alfortville, France) and premiered on January 19, 2004, at Péniche Adélaïde (Paris, France). It was commissioned by La muse en circuit. I would like to thank Élise Caron (recorded voice). L won La muse en circuit’s 5th Concours d’art radiophonique (France, 2003).

Speaking… again is a radiophonic composition based on interviews with Don, a long-time friend of the composer. Don experienced a profound, unexpected, life-changing challenge in his early 50’s. While others might have given up, Don’s outlook, determination, and refusal to allow setbacks to dictate his life, set an example for how we should all approach living. Further, Don teaches us not to take even the simplest things for granted.

Speaking… again was realized in 2003 at the composer’s studio in Bowling Green (Ohio, USA) and premiered on January 19, 2004 at the Péniche Adélaïde (Paris, France) for the Radiophonic art prizewinners competition concert organized by La Muse en circuit. The piece was commissioned by La Muse en circuit. Recordings of Don were made at the Electroacoustic Music Studios of the University of Birmingham (UK), engineered by Joseph Anderson.
