Christine Groult et Beatriz Ferreyra présenteront deux concerts extérieurs différents le 30 juillet 2012 au Pré du Moulin à Boulc (France) et le 31 juillet à la Place des fêtes à Barnave (France). Au programme à Boulc: La condition captive et Le temps du ciel: entropie de Christine Groult et Río de los pájaros azules (La rivière des oiseaux bleus) et Les larmes de l’inconnu de Beatriz Ferreyra. Au programme à Barnave: Si l’oiseau par hasard… et Étincelles de Christine Groult et La ba-balle du chien-chien à la mé-mère et Río de los pájaros (La rivière des oiseaux) de Beatriz Ferreyra.

Duration and density. Sonority and spatialization. Canadian electroacoustic / sound composer Darren Copeland creates intricate, engaging pieces that make commonplace sounds mysterious, evocative or just plain interesting. How long a sound is becomes malleable, and this makes listening active. Stretched or segmented, environmental sounds’ nature is tested, questioned, reframed in this 5.1 Surround Sound DVD-Audio’s 8 compositions. The voice of a single 9/11 witness becomes an entire soundscape through Copeland’s ingenious editing and processing in They’re Trying to Save Themselves. The phonemes of Streams of Whispers title are sifted, repositioned, transposed, deconstructed and, in general, ‘messed with’ to create an immersive soundscape. On Schedule was created using a demanding procedural strategy, which itself was subject to modification if sonic results were not satisfying. His willingness to make ‘theory’ subordinate to aesthetic sensitivity and judgement marks Copeland as an artist. Based on the train schedule between London and Moscow, each of the piece’s 27 sections focuses on differing facets of overtones and sound spectra, giving shape and movement to its selected elements. Listeners with a surround sound system can get the full effect of Copeland’s specialty: spatialization. At art space he founded, New Adventures in Sound Art, he can move sounds around a multichannel, surround and overhead sound system. On this disc, sounds move independently, rather than in the traditional back-and-forth of stereo panning. An offshoot of Copeland’s spatialized sound art is that it makes us more aware of the richness of our day-to-day sound world.

Hildegard Westerkamp est une des cinq participants principaux au congrès The Global Composition sur le son, les médias et l’environnement du 25 au 28 juillet 2012 à la Hochschule Darmstadt (Allemagne). Elle co-animera d’abord l’atelier électronique des 46^e Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt du 22 au 25 juillet.

Letztes Jahr, auf seiner LP für Hrönir, zog Bernier aus seiner Faszination für die Geräusche und Artikulationen kleiner und großer Mechaniken einen beklemmenden Fabrikhorrorfilm. Auch auf Travaux mécaniques (DVD-Audio) reihen sich dräuende Passagen zwischen dramatische Zuspitzungen und Überraschungsmomente, aber Bernier bietet hier so viele Klangentdeckungen auf, so viel spielerische Neugier, dass Düsternis nie Oberhand gewinnt. Und er wirft immer wieder Schlaglichter auf weitere musikalische Interessen: eine kurze Raster-Noton-artige Verarbeitung einer Math-Rock-Beatstruktur zur Einleitung, durchweg immer wieder Einsprengsel melodischer Instrumentalklänge sowie die Verwendung von Sprachmaterial, ganz zentral im letzten Stück, das William S Burroughs’ Methodik auf ihn selbst anwendet, um im Zusammenspiel mit der eigenen Herangehensweise in einen wunderbaren Strudel der Selbstreferenz zu tauchen: Der Maschine wie der Collage ist in der Akusmatik natürlich nicht zu entkommen, sie sind ihr eingeschrieben.
