Arturo Parra will give 2 concerts as part of the Visiones Sonoras festival in Mexico City and Morelia (Mexico), from November 21 to 28, 2007. He will present the complete Parr(A)cousmatique cycle of works (a Latino-American premiere) and will premiere his Aljibe profundo for guitar and vocal expressions. Finally, he will propose a master class, during the festival, about interactions between electroacousticians and instrumental composers.

Six ans après la parution de son premier disque, Traces sur empreintes DIGITALes, Adrian Moore est de retour pour une nouvelle exploration d’électroacoustique introspective sur le label montréalais. Proches des musiques ambiantes par leur approche formelle très suggestive, les compositions d’Adrian Moore — dont Dreaming of the Dawn, une commande du GRM datant de 2004 — capturent les motifs sonores dans des structures mobiles où le compositeur peut ensuite à loisir faire intervenir un fourmillement de modulations. Dans ces conditions, le mixage des différentes pistes se révèle aussi précieux qu’excessivement sensible et évolutif, et donne une impression d’intervention live permanente. Sur certains morceaux, le croisement de ces variations sonores et de parties instrumentales plus posées (Piano Piece (for Peter)) offre un contraste saisissant.

As you might guess from the quotation from Guy Debord’s La Sociéte du spectacle which proudly adorns the sleeve of Geisteswissenschaften, Aimé Dontigny revels in a refusenik sensibility. A founder member of free noise collective Napalm Jazz and a dedicated servant of the Canadian New Music Network, his first fully fledged solo CD defies easy assimilation. These constructions take standard tropes such as hiphop drum breaks, saccharine sax solos and swooning romantic film scores, and disfigure them with flurries of disruptive sound. But as the violence is generally held in check, the end results are curiously ambivalent; sometimes it’s hard to work out whether you’re being offered the farthest reaches of sound art or just a particularly cerebral dose of triphop. Somehow Dontigny manages to conjure a strange, splenetic grace from his unruly source material and Geisteswissenschaften remains an intriguing if frequently bemusing listen throughout.

The new piece Back to Square One by Pete Stollery which was commissioned by IMEB will be premiered on November 1, 2007 during the Sound Festival in Aberdeen (Scotland, UK). This year, the festival features Francoise Barrière’s music and other works from the Bourges competition(including Power Tools by Adrian Moore). Back to Square One will then be performed again at Soundings in Edinburgh on November 3.

Francis Dhomont will present Vol d’Arondes on November 21, 2007 and Sol y sombra… L’espace des spectres (for guitar and tape) during the concert given by Arturo Parra. Those concerts are scheduled in the Visiones Sonoras festival programme in Mexico (Mexico). A master class about spatilization and a lecture are also in the event programme.
