Continuation of the Rien à voir series, the Akousma (4) mini-festival presents electroacoustic music in its many forms on November 28 to December 1, 2007 at the Monument-National in Montréal. Will perform: Miguel Azguime, Natasha Barrett, Nicolas Bernier, Georges Forget, Gilles Gobeil, Laurie Radford, Robert Normandeau, and the winners of the Hugh Le Caine Award of the 2007 SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers. A unique event, in Montréal. Not to be missed!

As you may know the piece Novars by Francis Dhomont will be presented as part of the MANTIS festival during the concert launch of the University of Manchester’s Studio Novars (UK). But that’s not all! This event also features the works of Martin Bédard, Nicolas Bernier, Ludger Brümmer, Marcelle Deschênes, Gilles Gobeil, Denis Smalley, Hans Tutschku, Hildegard Westerkamp, Trevor Wishart, and David Berezan and Jonty Harrison who will each world premiere a new piece… In short, this event is not to be missed and it takes place from November 2 to 4, 2007.

The 7th International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo (CIMESP 2007) received works of 208 composers from 33 countries! The international jury formed by Christian Calon, Gilles Gobeil, Flô Menezes and João Pedro Oliveira has awarded, amongst others, Liaisons mécaniques by Nicolas Bernier (2nd Prize ex aequo) and honorable mentions were given to 7 works, including those of Elizabeth Anderson, Manuella Blackburn, António Ferreira, Raúl Minsburg, Steingrimur Rohloff, Diana Simpson, Hans Tutschku. Premières traces du Choucas by Francis Dhomont won the Public Prize.

Were also announced the selected works for the upcoming 7th International Biennial for Electroacoustic Music of São Paulo (VII BIMESP 2008) in the fall of 2008. They include: Last Thoughts Before Silence by Mathew Adkins, scènes, rendez-vous by Pete Stollery, Kaleidoscope: Arcade by Peter Batchelor, When I was Wood by Stephan Dunkelman.

Milliseconde topographie will present its videomusic Treelogy 3: Orchid at Galerie Horace art actuel in Sherbrooke on August 23, 2007, and also during the EXiS 2007 festival in Seoul (South Korea) on August 24-30. Furthermore, Milliseconde topographie will launch a retrospective DVD-V of their videomusic in the fall. The disc will also include a new audio project which combines ancient music instruments (barrel organ, harpsichord, dulcimer) and new technologies.

The winners of the 34th Bourges International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art (France) are announced. Ricordiamo Forlì by John Young got the First Prize of the category “Trivium — programme music.” In the same category Liaisons mécaniques by Nicolas Bernier was awarded a mention.

Nicolas Bernier will offer a performance of Ail et l’eau faille, his fisrt solo album, during CD launch of A_dontigny’s Geisteswissen­schaften, on June 13, 2007 at Saw Gallery in Ottawa.
