Fresh news on Paul Dolden’s activities. He just completed the piece Who Can Play the Fastest?, commissioned by the Stockholms Saxofonkvartett. He is also working on two other works: Who Has the Biggest Noise? — a commission by Swedish guitarist Stefan Östersjö —, and Who Has the Biggest Sound? (for “tape”). We’ll let you know about the respective places and dates of the premieres.

In addition to the presentation of the complete DVD-Audio Trois songes during the GEMdays event in Huddersfield (England, UK), Gilles Gobeil will present his piece Le miroir triste on January 25, 2008 as part of the Ultraschall festival in Berlin (Germany).

The V Electroacoustic Miniatures International Contest presented by the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía (Spain) has rewarded Dominic Thibault for his piece Nuit noire, nuit grise. Of the 13 finalists, 4 other are Québécois or Canadians: David Berezan, James Duhamel, Thierry Gauthier, and Gilles Gobeil.

Mathew Adkins will be presenting, on January 23, 2008, a new work at the Music Research Centre, University of York (England, UK): Five Panels: Panel No. 1, to Luke, commission by SpACE-Net. The piece will be presented several times again: on January 26 at the GEMdays Festival in Huddersfield (England, UK); on February 2 as part of the Sonic Arts Research Day at the University of Leeds (England, UK); then on February 28 during the Bangor New Music Festival 2008 in Bangor (Wales, UK). This last concert will also include Silk to Steel, Symbiont, Vistas [now titled Last Thoughts Before Silence] and the world premiere of Five Panels: Panel No. 3, to Annis.

Until April 24, 2008, Paroles égales (Arturo Parra, guitar and original music; Catherine Ego, narrative), proposes a series of weekly evenings in music and words for the complete reading of Alessandro Baricco’s novel Océan mer. Every Thursday at 5:30 pm at L’Imprévu, in Montréal.

The GEMdays Festival will take place from January 24 to 27, 2008 at the University of Huddersfield (UK). Mathew Adkins, Gilles Gobeil, Sylvain Pohu, and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay are some of the guest composers.
