Vivienne Spiteri will create the diffusion of the sound installation inside the eye of silence, a work of Rob Godman and vivienne spiteri. Creation will take place at Hanlan’s Point (Toronto), the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday August 17, and 18 2002, part of the festival Sign Waves-Phase Two, and presented every Saturdays and Sundays until September 29 2002. Sign Waves—Phase Two explores the sonic and visual interactions between the underground reservoirs, the Chemistry Building & Toronto Island.

From Friday August 16 to Sunday August 18 2002, at the Transparent Theater (Berkeley, CA), the second edition of the Transparent Tape Music Festival will present 3 concerts of fixed sound works diffused over a 20 pieces loudspeaker surround sound system. Works by Pierre Schaeffer, John Cage, Francis Dhomont, Barry Truax, Jonty Harrison and Royoji Ikeda.

As part of the training course in acousmatic interpretation, organized by Futura (Crest, France), the director of the Musiques & Recherches center (Belgium), Annette Vande Gorne will present a concert featuring works by Francis Dhomont, Ingrid Drese, Robert Normandeau and Sachiyo Takahashi on August 15, 2002 at 9pm.

Chants libres presents its new creation Pacamambo, an opera for children composed by Zack Settel and Wajdi Mouawad. Pacamambo is an electroacoustic work for voice, percussions and flute. Produced with the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the festival Les coups de théâtre.

Présence III is the latest Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC) release, 28 composers from 7 countries are involved in this double CD project, bringing together a vast diversity of electroacoustic works.

Canadian mp-based experimental imprint No Type release their first 2CD set and it’s truly an invigorating thing to behold. 36 tracks are crammed into the lush cardboard package each pushing the boundaries of their chosen form in clever and inventive ways. The dominating forces are those of noise and experimental electronica but pretty beats and even guitars are not ignored. There is an excitement in the sheer variety presented but further in the skill of execution — kalx’s Couf being a brilliant case in point. As tempting as it is to dismiss this challenging music as ‘not for everybody’ well why the hell not?
