Milliseconde topographie’s videomusic Treelogy will be presented at the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montréal on June 11, 2009 as part of the «Paysages mouvants 3» event presented by Espace vidéographe. On June 25, Treelogy will be presented at the Loating World Animation Festival in Portland, Oregon (USA). On June 12 the duet will present Le microsillon des vagues at L’Écho d’un fleuve, an event taking place in the Centre-Sud district in Montréal.

Arturo Parra and Catherine Ego celebrates 15 years of their theatre for the ears duet Paroles égales on May 30, 2009. For this occasion, they will premiered Parra’s work Novecento, guitariste, based on Novecento: pianiste text by Alessandro Baricco, at Volver Café culturel in Montréal.

Sur fond blanc (EKUMEN EK009) is the effort of two electroacoustic composers Nicolas Bernier and Jacques Poulin-Denis. A lot of their brittle sounds are a shade too tasteful for my ears, but they do occasionally harness some decent processed noises in service of dramatic, narrative effects. Actors and actresses use their speaking apparatus to contribute fragments of prose and poetry into the mix, as do certain dancers whose footsteps form part of the compositions (the record has its origins as a commission for a dance work). These Canadian musicians are, they say, attempting to convey something about “interior space, emptiness and absence.”

Les deux compositeurs ont façonné de vastes paysages oniriques dans lesquels l’auditeur erre de découverte en surprise. Ils font partie d’une nouvelle vague d’électroacousticiens qui a vécu les développements de la musique techno, et on pourrait dire que leur production est à la «musique concrète» ce que le rock progressif est au rockabilly. On peut découvrir une nouvelle collaboration de Nicolas Bernier, cette fois avec Jérôme Minière, dans Une fête pour Boris, la dernière création du Théâtre Ubu, présentée au Festival TransAmériques ces jours-ci. 5 / 6

The Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre (BEAST) will present a series of 5 concerts on Travels in Time and Space on May 29 — 31, 2009 at CBSO Centre in Birmingham (England, UK). On May 30, Andrew Lewis will give a solo concert during which he will present his works Danses acousmatiques, Benllech Shells (available on Miroirs obscurs) and Ascent. Another concert the same evening will present Jonty Harrison’s work Phantom Power and Hans Tutschku’s Zwei Räume.
