Les œuvres gagnantes au concours de composition Sound in Space (Boston, MA, ÉU, 2011) sont Anagoge de Andrew Babcock (premier prix), Champs de fouilles de Martin Bédard (deuxième prix) et A glass is not a glass de Adam Basanta (troisième prix).

Le concours international de musique électroacoustique Musica Nova 2011 (Prague, République tchèque) a dernièrement dévoilé ses lauréats: Antonio Scarcia, Chien-Wen Cheng, Martin Klusák, Diana Salazar, Roderik de Man, Monty Adkins, John Young et Alla Zahaïkevych.

Le festival Sound in Space aura lieu au Fenway Center de la Northwastern University à Boston (ÉU) du 17 au 19 novembre 2011. Ce festival est aussi un concours de composition qui présente les six œuvres finalistes — dont quatre de compositeurs montréalais: Adam Basanta, Martin Bédard, Simone D’Ambrosio et Ana Dall’Ara-Majek — lors de deux concerts. Notons aussi au programme du festival deux concerts portraits consacrés à Daniel Teruggi et Ludger Brümmer et quelques conférences et ateliers.

Robert Normandeau fera la création de sa plus récente œuvre, La part des anges, le 26 novembre 2011 dans le cadre du festival Imatronic à Karlsruhe (Allemagne). Au même festival, la veille, sera présentée la chorégraphie Effraction de l’oubli de Camille Mutel pour laquelle Gilles Gobeil a fait la musique.

La 24^e édition du festival Tage Neuer Musik in Weimar aura lieu à Weimar (Allemgane) du 2 au 5 novembre 2011 et soulignera, entre autres, les 65 ans de Annette Vande Gorne — concert portrait le 4 novembre — et les 85 ans de Francis Dhomont — concert portrait le 5 novembre.

Although the music of Elainie Lillios is firmly rooted in the new stream of musique concrète-derived aesthetics, her work offers much for fans of other forms of abstract electronica to sink their teeth into. Like the work of many of her peers also documented by Montréal’s scene-defining empreintes DIGITALes label, each piece here is dynamic and gestural, with real-world sounds transforming and dissolving through unpredictable electronic processing trajectories. Lillios favours granular processing techniques that shatter sounds into particles and then sprays them out like clouds of dust or casts them across the soundscape like handfuls of pebbles. While others have employed this technique extensively, Lillios does so especially adeptly, achieving a balance between preserving the source material while conjuring a wide palette of unanticipated sonic colours. Her work often settles into an intimate mode with the use vocal source sounds. Though attractive, this feature can also occasionally feel overly prescriptive and literal, like with the texts in Listening Beyond. Elsewhere, such as in Arturo, textual aspects are perfectly intertwined with the sound world of the piece, only adding to the intrigue. Said intimacy and balance, as well as her penchant for resonant, droning atmospherics and dramatic contrasts, make Entre espaces a worthwhile listen.
